10 Obstacles to Achieving Personal Independence
Independence and self-sufficiency is built into the very fabric of any pioneering nation or society. The modern world, by contrast — particularly the U.S. — is in a dangerous predicament as life on the homestead has been traded for lives in suits within urban environments.
Running in tandem with this reduction in physical self-sufficiency is the emergence of global governance that seeks a post-industrial world where people are destined to be centrally managed along with resources by a comparably tiny but powerful group of elites.
Clearly it is becoming more difficult to achieve personal independence. But it is still possible with knowledge and planning. In order to achieve personal independence, it is essential to first identify the obstacles being presented, then do everything in our power to find ways over or around what is being put in our path to freedom.
Skills: Modern society has all but eradicated the instinct of self-preservation. Just a generation ago it was common for both men and women to be knowledgable about how to fix household items, garden, prepare and preserve food, etc. Today’s skills that are admired are in the digital realm. While some of these skills are essential in a high-tech world, many are obstacles to personal independence as they distract from the essential hands-on living that takes place in the real world. Re-focus on learning basic skills such as hunting, fishing, food preservation, electrical, and plumbing, among others. Commit to a path of self-sufficiency.
Health: Our health is being assaulted at a rate never before seen. The sheer amount of ways humans and our environment are being poisoned is staggering. We also have a branch of mad science known as Transhumanism that seeks to permanently alter the structure of what it means to be human. To combat this, we must seek a balanced lifestyle as one of the surest ways to personal independence, as it reduces the need for a corrupt and inept medical system that is the standard the world over, and will force itself upon us if we don’t become wise to their methods. Learn how to eat healthy, use medicinal herbs, improve your mental and spiritual health, and get sufficient exercise to protect and even reduce DNA damage on a path toward becoming more fit to overcome all obstacles thrown your way.
Knowledge: The focus of modern education is centered around producing non-thinking drones who, by their very nature, are dependent on an operator. It’s an education system that prevents us from determining possible threats, let alone puts zero emphasis on teaching real skills to deal with those threats. Once we gain the knowledge to recognize what threatens our freedom, health, finances, environment and so on, we will be armed with the motivation to break free. Then we must educate ourselves and children as to the path and methods needed to achieve independence. One of the most effective ways to ensure that our children are being taught how to live an independent lifestyle is to consider pulling them out of indoctrination centers and homeschool them. And once they are home teach them how to think critically by identifying the modern methods of mind control.
Community: The concept of community is literally being turned on its head. The modern trend is to create a form of mob rule that is displayed in concepts like Communitarianism. This is a system where any true individual is perceived as a threat, instead of as an integral part of the whole. It seeks less diversity, not more. A strong local community is, however, essential in achieving one’s personal independence, as it is a support structure during times of stress or hardship, as well as adding much-needed social bonding and the intellectual stimulation that comes from dialogue and debate. A group of other like-minded individualists who share values, resources, and skills can reduce the overall dependence on agencies and governments that seek exactly that. Although personal independence is the goal, having a tribe of peers for support makes it that much easier.
Financial: The economy is working against us on so many levels, such as currency devaluation due to deficit spending on endless wars and corporate bailouts, which is resulting in rising food prices and a host of other pressures to our financial independence. But it’s also one of the primary reasons to seek independence. True freedom begins by first not being a slave to finances. One should explore solutions rooted in a decentralized model such as local co-ops and alternative markets, as well as barter networks and alternative currencies. For those with Internet skills, starting a blog or website can be a relatively fast way to generate extra income, or even to attain full economic freedom from nearly anywhere in the world. Buy tangible assets and explore strategies for insuring against economic collapse to remain independent regardless of overall economic conditions.
Energy: Major industry stifles alternative and free energy inventions, Nikola Tesla being the best historical example of this suppression. Energy prices are also rising under the weight of a collapsing dollar. Continuing war in the Middle East is putting pressure on oil pricing, and coal supplies are dwindling along with government shutdowns over alleged environmental concerns. Now is the time to consider getting off the energy grid as quickly as possible. There are energy breakthroughs which seek to make this happen on a wide scale and should be investigated. In the meantime, you can make your residence more energy efficient through weather proofing, or by installing solar or wind power as a good first step. There are alcohol options to run your vehicles. Reducing your dependence on outside energy sources also will be a priceless investment even without the prospect of economic collapse. And if a full-blown collapse does take place, you will be in a much better position to remain independent as core infrastructure fails.
Water: There are many reasons why our global store of fresh water is in deep trouble. Everything from industrial pollution, environmental disasters, hydraulic fracturing, pharmaceutical poisoning, and a private corporate takeover by commercial bottlers like Coca-Cola and Nestlé threatens our most precious natural resource. Droughts can create shortages and drive up prices at any time. Ideally, one should have a source of water on site, but it is essential to at least identify sources of spring water in your area, then learn water storage techniques. It also good to have a water purifier for both travel and at home as a backup.
Food: A looming food crisis is quickly coming to a head. Food inflation, shortages, and riots are being announced for 2013 by the mainstream media. We know that documents such as Henry Kissinger’s infamous Memorandum 200 called for using food as a weapon. To maintain independence during this crisis it is essential to learn the best methods for off-the-grid food production. Even with a small property, you can convert your lawn to a perennial permaculture garden as shown in the video below.
At minimum you can create a seed bank, or invest in bulk food storage to preserve food security as well as to have a store of tradable goods. At the very least, identify and support your local farmers markets, family farms and co-ops to build the strength of your own community which will help preserve your personal independence.
Shelter: Most of us still believe a man’s home to be his castle. The outright violations of property rights has reached a scary level, especially in urban centers where roving gangs of corrupt, violent and untrained bureaucrats and their police henchmen even demand home gardens be removed. This, combined with eviction over property taxes (like this 101-year-old woman), has removed nearly all semblance of what it means to have one’s own place of shelter and refuge. But people are fighting back. To regain personal independence it is necessary to organize locally and agree to resist such intrusion. This has been done with some success in certain areas in regards to food freedom, and protecting those who face wrongful eviction. If it is exceedingly difficult to change local statutes, or if your property taxes are foolishly high, it may be time to relocate to an area that offers more freedom.
Legislation: A wave of legislation seeks to criminalize personal independence. You have to know that when the Amish are being attacked and imprisoned, we are very far away from where we started. Raw milk demonization, an ongoing drug war that is a complete disaster, persecution for home gardens, and even declaring certain types of livestock to be an invasive species are all signs that legislation is out of control. The biggest obstacle to legislation is the power that we grant it. Any dictator can make a law, or create an agency to enforce made-up regulations. We must have the courage to resist and be active within our local communities to tell our government (and show them) where the line in the sand is. Tyranny never stops until it comes face to face with an entity bigger than itself. That entity is called We the People.
For anyone who has done even a limited amount of research, or simply looks around with open eyes, our supposedly advanced modern world is becoming a veneer that is wearing very thin. Centralized government aims to demonize anyone who espouses concepts centered on an independent lifestyle. It is more important than ever that we spread the word about what central planners have in store for our world, then commit ourselves to standing our ground, not being slaves, and redoubling our efforts to preserve a strong, but peaceful co-existence. The only way to do this is to empower ourselves and others with the knowledge and skills that will remove the anxiety of being unprepared and defenseless. The open hand we extend should be one given to offer assistance, not to beg for it.

Nice Zen very nice. I have always thought the best way to beat the elites is to stop consuming and these are great examples on how to acheive this. Your mind and health and general well being will improve ten fold when you mentally realize that you have succeeded and can survive without all these superfical comforts.

Great post! Solutions are right in front of us.
Thanks!
This article is worth reading. The problem I have with it is that it does not advise the dispossessed and marginalised. Those who are barely hanging on on the periphery of existence do not have resources now. Will they have resources to diversify or take care of business when things get worse, as it will?
Record numbers of people are unemployed, homeless and are on food stamps. For many, life is making the rounds of soup kitchens and their tent cities, finding the cheapest rentals which match minimum wage jobs, getting up early and going to pick-up locations for per diem work etc.
Those who are financially comfortable can do all the things you recommended and transition to whatever the new dispensation gives. Yet, the needed adjustments may not be along the lines your paradigm suggests. If it all crashes financially or because of war, it may be that millions of people will have little or no basic needs. Crime and lawlessness will escalate. This is the perfect MARTIAL LAW precursor! It all depends on how bad it gets. The scenario you posit is live-able. How about if it gets really bad?
I have some ideas of my own:
1) Give up the fable that life is meant for the pursuit of happiness. This was meant to tie you to seeking things and pleasures in hope that some state called happiness will somehow materialise. It doesn’t! The ‘happiness’ dream was created by fairy tales, movies and the filthy miserable rich. It fuels the capitalist system. Your soul’s harmony is all the background joy you need while you tackle the job of getting your basic needs. That harmony is free and continuously flowing once you become soul by suppressing the disharmonious dark side within. When you are complete, you see the utilitarian function of material things without them adding or detracting from your worth.
2) Face the worst case scenario….reduce your physical possessions to what you can carry if you have to move. Keep only what you need eg for your health and protection. Some seeds and plants would be useful in a new environment or frontier. Nearly everybody had a homestead in the old days. Then cities came and with rural-urban migration, the rural lands fell into other hands. Now, the big Corporations and wealthy are grabbing it up. From the cities, the population have no place to run! The manufacturers of money aim to have it all!
3) Taking care of oneself is a skill that has to be learnt. Health is all based on access to the truth and allied therapies. Dr Mark Sircus is the brightest light in this respect. His website… IMVA… tells you the story. Basically, Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Chloride, Iodine, Sulphur, other minerals, superfoods and alkalinity are what you need as preventative and curative medicine. You need to learn these to appreciate the simplicity of health and the trickery of conventional medicine. Health is wealth!
4) The soul becomes aware via the senses, especially the optic nerve. There is a lot going on in the body that does not arise from the soul. These have to go if the soul is to regain its body for its use. Meditation, killing germs and viruses in the body, alkalinity, not using meat, milk, grain or acidic foods, etc reduce the satan within so it can’t disturb the lifestyle of the soul. Soul alone can defeat the dark side. Soul alone can access intuition which gives you guidance. Realisation that the soul and dark side are the drivers of the human body, that the single personality or strawman that was created and fed by the elites is fake, and that God can only be communicated with by Soul, will erase all the false paradigms fed by mainstream to deceive you.
There is more but if one can become SOUL, the onward journey becomes more than possible! The soul has the composure, qualities and talents to handle the material world. Its that dark side which is inextricably glued to materials and experiences. To let go now, it is crucial to defeat the dark side within!
“Running in tandem with this reduction in physical self-sufficiency is the emergence of global governance that seeks a post-industrial world where people are destined to be centrally managed along with resources by a comparably tiny but powerful group of elites.”
This article is outstanding ( if read in the era of 1969-80 ).
We’ve come a long way since then. Realistically “all of the above” is a very heavy workload. To manage 1, or 2, of the suggested would be outstanding; but, not easily done with consistency. Much of the reason has to do with today’s gestalt.
The welfare state will see it’s end. The Global plantation does not allow for that. What is more likely, is that those who outlive their usefulness to the state, will not do so for long.
We are looking at Communist China, as the Ideal Template for governing, according to Globalist ambitions.
The State will decide everything for you. The alternative, if you wish to choose it, will be ‘terminal’.
Thus, Pandava, your insight is right on target, and it doesn’t get much better; that is, at least for now.
Thanks for the 9/11 links and for this!
I guess people try to help others like themselves. Even so, there are too many possible scenarios to integrate…cashless society, martial law, war after Iran attacked, more unemployment, gangs, more poverty, drones and increased surveillance etc etc.
Food, clothing and shelter….these are the only basics!
Once again, Zen
INSPIRATIONAL !
I think we all need to face facts: that the middle class was only a temporary abberation. Throughout history there have been few very rich, many more lower rich- merchant class folks, and then a massive peasant class. Robotics has rung in the death knell of the overpaid manufacturing worker, and I think its about time. I’m sooooo sick on the “Hard working man” working on the assembly lines of companies like GM, tellin it like it is, saying he never gets a fair shake, and that management is ALWAYS a pack of idiots. These people don’t work too hard, and if they actually just told the truth, the only thing they could say about their work and lives, is that they are boring and suck dick. Boo-hoo! . You deserve to live peasant lives.
The vast majority of people are very dim lights; uninspired, lazy, narrow minded, and stupid. Whats so wrong with them being poor? The world’s a tough place, and with globalization, not only are corporations and nations competing, but so too are individuals. Why should Sanjeep in India, or Cheng Liang in China, make massively less money than Hard-Working Jim in Detroit? They shouldnt. If Jim can’t cut the mustard, then fuck him.
What we need is a smarter welfare program to take care of the unambitious, stupid and lazy, in a manner that’s humane, but also sensible. Why not cheap public housing, community kitchens, community internet centers, free marijuana, and computer games for all, pocket money for everyone,… a sort of “Peasant Resort”. Of course all the folks on the dole have responsibilities like cleaning, cooking, trash collection, etc. But once a person checks into this “Peasant Resort System”, they must be sterilized, so we can lower their numbers over time. Oh yeah, put these peasant resorts in wastelands like arizona, west texas, etc.. Oh yeah… outlaw TV at peasant resorts, and make meditation courses mandatory.
People are bitching about a new world order, and/or a one world government, but to be honest, it just makes sense. Folks need to start accepting reality, and just deal with it.
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers
The masses are exactly as intended by the Elites. Why blame the victims when the perpetrators are the masterminds? Both well-to-do and poor non-elites are in majority, clones of the elites. They are not manufacturing the money like the elites….and must get it somehow. Unfortunately, only the niches created by the Elites are goldmines….the rest must get money by the sweat of their brows or by less praiseworthy means. I cannot find morality or personified ideals among those who are wealthy. I think it is closeness to and support for the elites that confer wealth….not morality, admirable qualities or hard work!
The word PEASANT is just a derogation and is strange since agriculture is not a factor! Those on the periphery of the system do not all choose this role. The size of this class changes with economic conditions….the marginalised class increases in recessionary times. In fact, the system accomodated these largely skill-less people by supplying the drug culture etc. But then, they are victims of the Elite’s system. The system prefers to have a system based on competition for resources which are deliberately made scarce….but are not really scarce! Oil is not scarce but look at the cost of fuel. The further away from the money-printers you move, the scarcer money gets! What is needed is a system that is not administered for the benefit of one tribe that wants a NWO. It it heading to ba a NWO because they are brighter and more hard working? Are their think-tanks not filled with the best and brightest from the non-elite class who were recruited by scholarships eg Rhodes? In fact, it is by cunning, conspiracy and collusion that the NWO is becoming reality…and not by any admirable quality!
All this is just the war on good by the forces of evil. That paradigm has been hidden from view. The masses (or non-elites) are divided into good and evil. The majority are evil…a machination of the elites. The overall victims are the good guys. This is the real status quo not the one you posit. The unwashed illiterate peasants vs the talented industrious elites is just a figment of your programmed imagination!
Living in China for a long time, “peasent” has taken on a different meaning for me. There are farmers who are not peasents. There are non-agricultural people who are peasents. To me, peasent means “one lacking substantially in a necessary trait or charachteristic, deemed necessary to be regarded as an adult, and/or to facilitate survival”.
Peasent is a state of mind, even more than a lack of wealth.
Peasents always lack that spark of consciousness which makes them a fully realised human being. Sure, china’s full of literally drooling peasents, but so is the West. For example, american peasents take baths, drive cars and live in homes they can’t afford, and spend their free time watching mindless tv. American peasents, are mad as hell, and real “bad boys”, but completely ineffective. The walking, talking, personification of “Erectile Dysfunction”.
European peasents are a little different in that they are shameless in demanding a free lifetime lunch. They actually riot when they are not being given free stuff and services! HAHA! This is the funniest variety of homo bumicus. White people acting like american ghetto blacks. Too funny!
Anyway, the common traits of peasents is that they are always compelled to live beyond their means. 58% of americans recently polled, pay payments to be able to afford small ticket electronics like I-phones. Hahaha! This is not a peasent!?
Peasents are never very intelligent, unnecessarily emotional, lazy, apathetic, quick to anger, and slow to understanding. In affect, they truly are livestock that we can’t eat. They fuck, they shit, they eat, they consume, they make the world a poorer, and unhappier place. They want what others want. They are envious. Envy is one of the most potent poisons known to man. I hate all politicians of course, but the ones that fan class hatreds are the worst. They build up the peasents. They give power to their numbers, only to control them later, and fuck them as badly as the last group.
The last trait of a peasent: the most destructive and vile, is the one that you seem to exhibit, and shamelessly identify with- VICTIM.
To be a victim is to give up, be a bitch, a child, a worm. Even if I felt like a victim, I would be too embarrassed to let others know this dark disfunction in my thinking. To identify with victimization, is to completely surrender your self worth. Subconsciously, everyone hates victims, and that may be because there is no such thing as a victim. Existence is fair. You should think about that.
The word is spelled peasant. And, geez, man, are you hateful toward women, children and fauna: “be a bitch, a child a worm.” Wouldn’t want to be inside your paradigm at all. Time for boys to grow up and be men, sir, not turn around and point your finger at others whom you feel to be deficient in relationship to you. Trying working on your spelling first.
Thank you Ms. Spellcheck. Actually, after I wrote women, I realised that it might be a tad inappropriate, but it was too late. Sorry to all you girls out there. Where would we all be without you.
Wait!!!!!! Bitch is a dog! Haha! I’m vendicated!
Suck that Leslie
I forgot- the most important trait peasents LACK is a REAL spiritual inquisitiveness. And please, DON’T tell me the masses are spiritual seekers! Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, going through rote rituals weekly or even daily, are not seeking shit. Even bullshit american seekers are a lost cause 99% of the time. Ask most american “Meditators” what they are really doing, and it becomes obvious all they are doing is posturing. Like being the guy at work who has created for himself the role of ” Mtn Biking guy” or the “womanizer”, or the “straight talking woman”, who’s gonna tell everyone “how it is”. Its all bullshit. Look at americans doing nude yoga, sticking fingers up each others’ asses to release kundalini. HAHAHA!!! What an absolute joke! All are peasents. You think people with money and power don’t know more than these babboons?! People with enough money are able to move beyond the mundane concerns of the masses and more fully delve into the spiritual. Any yoga teacher worried about getting evicted, or aging “hippy” who has lost the majority of his retirement funds, can offer anyone, ANYTHING spiritually.
The universe is very straightforward, and understandable, once a person becomes honest with himself, surrenders to the ride, and does the hard work necessary. There are no Kung Fu Pandas. You’re living a delusion if you think life should be easy, and/or life is anything BUT fair.
Your writing is very entertaining. I must give you that!
However, you take people away from the MATRIX, analyse them in your mental laboratory, then expect reality to resemble your conclusions.
You assume wrongly that:
1) Those with wealth deserve it because they are better human beings.
2) Little wealth means that you are stupid, lazy and incompetent.
3) Being a victim means that you actually were not taken advantage of….it means that you are just playing the role…..a role others don’t like.
4) The wealthy will all get to heaven because they can afford the settings in which meditation can be properly done. Their intelligence and honesty and other good qualities, speaks well about their spirituality.
5) The Peasants are those without wealth and class. They are weak, stupid, lazy, fail at religion or spirituality, are prone to crude sexual devices (eg twiddling sphincters for Kundalini arousal) etc etc.
6) Life is very fair but not easy.
7)Victims are liars.
8)The wealthy deserve this world and the next.
Wish I could continue in this vein and keep laughing as I rephrase your theses. I think that your vision needs to be grounded in reality. I won’t tell you what reality is. If you research, you may get the truth. You need to know what others see. You need to assay the evidence. I will tell you one thing though….the French Revolution was conspired, yet the french peasants fell for it and guillotined the nobility. There is a possibility of that experience being repeated. I am a victim who is broke. I am fairly safe!
I know what you are saying but disagree. If one has become well off, it is because that part of the all encompassing consciousness, made the right moves either this time or in past incarnations, enabling it to move beyond the mundane concerns like digging up cash to pay the electric bill. There is much more available time to explore spirituality or demographic engineering- at least for the well connected.
Honestly, I don’t see what people find wrong with a one world government. We are already under the thumb of one group, no matter where we live. These people never have our best interests in mind. However, with globalization, people can live where they want, provided they can afford it. Tariffs will be gone, allowing free trade everywhere. This is great for anyone who wants to make lots of money. I guess if a person has no ambition, then it will make things tough, but I can forsee a future where the ambitionless at least have free dorm housing, clothing, nutritional food thrice a day, healthcare, marijuana, and shared internet. Most idiots are killing themselves for these now. It will be a kind of Paradisio for the slack-jaws in the not so distant future. Beautiful idea, no?
PS….Life is not fair. It would be if satan did not exist. The elites know how to possess bodies with satan and take them over….and use them. Good people have been the victims and losers in this war. And it is war….not the normal human relations you presume!
Life would be fair if certain tribes of people did not have centuries old ongoing plans for conquering the Earth. It would be fair if the game-players in the bureacracy, Government and in every walk of life were not lying stinking conniving and sinful scumbags( Your kinda expression). It would be fair if everyone started at the same level or had the same opportunities. It would be fair if there was no tin-god government made up of satan’s own, who don’t leave Godhood for God, but think that they have to become the distributors of wealth and basic needs because God is not competent enough. So, they give all to their evil kind and nothing to good people. So, those who have wealth are in fact the scum of the earth….not good and talented as you presume.
Life is not fair and their are no kung fu pandas, but there is a way to cook every goose. Research the powers of soul!
Hello kung fu Pandava. Haha! Sorry, just noticed your name. Anyway life is fair. I’m sorry, but it’s true.
“Good people”. Can you please define that term? Maybe you only mean “scared people”, but don’t realise it. If you were a creator, would you want your created beings acting good? Playing it safe? Going to church every week? Turning off inquisitiveness? Taking no chances in life? Afraid to be bad? In affect, the things you created to explore and experience everything, are doing nothing with your gift, and like a shy kindergartener, are afraid to interact in the world. Afraid of risk. Too feeble minded, to even explore thoroughly, the reason of why they even exist? These are what we normally call good, salt of the earth people. I call them feckless morons, maroons, bakas, and wasted chances.
And you needn’t blame “certain tribes” for your problems. Call them jews or hebes, or kikes if you like. At least have a little backbone to speak your mind. Anyway, sure the Jews suck. But thats the role they are meant to play in this drama. However, if you really hate them, its your right as a character in this drama, to do something about it. Go to Israel and kill as many Jews as you can, if it makes you feel better. Maybe its what you need to experience this time around. I’d have more respect for that kind of person, than a baptist, abstainig from drink, dance, and laughter. And I’m sure the creator would too.
Cheers:)
Just go wild K.F. Pandava. You weren’t born to have the thoughts you are having. Action is the key for your transformation.
I am very unorthodox Bro. My writing reveals that much. I am an original and ‘think’ for myself.
Evil ambushed me just as I finished studying. It was all pre-planned. 30-35 years of just ‘staying alive’. I survived. Transformation? To what? Evil controls what they do, and I control what I control. I can’t give myself a job, or money, or opportunities. Evil has those bases covered and there are very few good people.
Don’t give me the positive/negative bs! Those who judge that psychology would love to say they are well-off because they are positive. They want to hide their behind the scenes actions? I will take care of them….that tin-god dark side government of eyeball readers!
I am like you in some things Bro!
Don’t give me the positive/negative bs! Those who judge that psychology would love to say they are well-off because they are positive.
You’re preaching to the choir regarding this. I’m with you 100%
I know it’s none of my business, but could you elaborate on what you are talking about regarding the “Evil” in your life? I’m not joking. I always have an open mind to such things.
Take care
Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Thoreau and others said most of that stuff over 200 years ago. What are the odds anyone’s really going to listen now? Here’s a little something for anyone who still has any doubts about 9/11. Try sharing it on Stumbleupon and see what happens: http://www.globalresearch.ca/on-911-doubts-were-immediate/
Let’s just undo some fabulous myths about Mr. Thoreau. You know, he wasn’t out in that cabin all by himself – he went home every week to have his mummy do his laundry. And, the area was also populated with a lot of intellectuals, at whose tables mr thoreau dined a great deal. So, the guy wasn’t so wow independent in that little cabin as everyone thinks – had A LOT of help from friends and mummy.

Beautiful, Soni!
Great read, now get this article on CBS, NBC, ABC CNN and FOX and include the video, then the commercials can be sponsored by Monsanto, McDonalds and Big Pharma… false food, false pills…
Great message…Great article…..Thanks Z. You a great reason NEVER to watch television ever again…..We all should start with what we have…
